Brookside High Prom Bulletin

• “Everything! I love it here so much. The classes, the people, the teachers, everything. Everything except the second-floor bathrooms in the science building. Those are terrible.”

• “I don’t know. I kind of feel like I know everything there is to know here. Brookside’s pretty tapped out - all that’s left is crusty old teacher gossip.”

• “’l’ll miss seeing Mei coming out of Art class on my way to AP History . . . You know, that’s just kind of scratching the surface.”

• “I can honestly say I will miss that face Principal Dunnan makes when he’s angry, with the scrunched-up eyebrows and his eyes bugging out. That always makes me smile.”

• School is almost over. Though I’ve been over it for a while,
• Memories last forever. Don’t forget to get your yearbook signed by people you’ll never see again.
• If you’re sad about leaving Brookside, don’t hug me.
• Seniors: Right now, the Freshman class is hard at work assembling a duplicate copy of you for their purposes. They will succeed.
• Principal Dunnan give a speech at graduation. In that time, the world will turn, species will die and - if you’ve practiced like me - you can catch a serious nap.
• I’m not the person you think I am. It probably goes the other way, too.
• Yeah, that thing you heard about me is true – I care about something. Good thing school’s out tomorrow. My reputation will never recover.

The student parking lot puts the "haves" and the "have-nots" out on full display. Unfortunately, despite your particular social standing, we all still "have" to come here.

In other news:

- A teacher invents a weird acronym to help his students learn something. Everyone remembers he wrote "N.E.R.D. C.R.I.M.E.S." on the chalkboard, but no one remembers what that means.
- They say the kids sleeping in the back of the room are slackers, but what if they're really dreaming of a better tomorrow?
- A kid is injured for doing a dumb thing and lands in the hospital. We all have to pretend the dumb thing didn't happen and he fell out of that truck doing homework.
- The Prom committee has chosen a theme, but they have yet to choose a better way to spend their time.
- The computer lab puts the world at your fingertips. Don't touch the wrong things.

Today in Brookside Campus Life:

- That Prom Girl is taking submissions from students for the Prom poster. I have a feeling my folded-notebook-paper-with-chewing-gum-in-it submission is gonna make it!

- Students continue to get excited every day tater tots are served in the cafeteria.

- A teacher tries to use a word he learned from his daughter. Does it wrong. Awkward silence ensues.

- A guy asks a girl to Prom. She says yes. People get excited like it didn’t just happen to someone else yesterday and won’t happen again tomorrow.

- I’m written up for “excessive and unauthorized pantomime” – this is not a real thing. Principal Dunnan threatens this might appear on my permanent record. I tell him we might both want to consider the ramifications of that.

- The Internet allows us to share things.
