PROM Talk: Not every school has Prom Court shoo-ins like Tyler & Jordan. What’s your Prom Court like?Thu May 05 16:11:28 via web

It’s happening on Friday. The biggest event of our high school lives happens in three days.

It’s Breadstick Day in the cafeteria. Two breadstick limit.

Also, that Prom thing is happening.

In other news:

  • A teacher extends deadline for senior papers by a week so students “can enjoy their Prom” . . . And people think I don’t take school seriously.
  • Prom tickets are sold out. Since the school decides how many tickets can exist, this seems needless cruel. But also, kind of funny.
  • Prom Girl seems ready to explode with a combination of joy and stress. Whoever is in charge of wind her up in the morning –you’re doing it wrong.
  • Some guy can’t find a date. If no one says yes, his Prom will be ruined. If you say yes, your Prom will be ruined. So, your call.
  • Everyone seems to wonder who will be crowned Prom King & Queen . . . because there’s not already enough useless talk about meaningless royalty and their lavish parties these days.
  • If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, I hear you can watch paint dry on the side of the “B” Building.

SENIORS!!!! This is our year!

Who just bought tickets for Prom #4? It’s your boy, Tyler!

I’d like to thank a very special lady from Class of ‘08 for taking young Freshman Tyler to the big dance and making this unprecedented FOUR-PEAT possible!

Now that I’m a Senior with years of Prom experience, let me drop some knowledge for you guys . . . choose your table wisely.

Prom table placement is more important to your social standing than the caste system was to Italy or wherever they had that thing.

Just don’t park your stuff at my table. What table? That would be the one with ME holding court, so don’t get it twisted.

Speaking of courts, when Jordan and I are called up for Prom King and Queen, don’t hate too hard. This has been in the works for years.

SENIORS!!!!! Prom is our night. It’s all about us.

I know there are some Juniors and Sophomores who scored Senior dates. Maybe even a Freshman or two.

But this is a night to celebrate the Class of 2011 . . .

What we’ve done. And what we’re going to do.

And your Prom King & Queen represent everything great about your class. Remember that when you’re voting.

Also remember . . . if your Prom King asks you to dance, you have to say yes. Not that you would say no, but just keep that in mind.

SENIORS!!!!!

You know, when my brother went to Brookside, he told me Barso boys date the most beautiful girls in school.

And you know I followed in his footsteps, am I right?

That wasn’t a question. Of course I’m right.

Shout-out to the latest and greatest – my Queen, Jordan!

Speaking of which, when you’re thinking about Prom Court – put those words together in your mind . . . “Queen” . . . and “Jordan” . . .

So, I have this notebook.

If you know me, you’ve seen it around. It’s pretty serious.

Inside that notebook . . . is Prom.

This is almost a year in the making. . A lot of past Prom committees have waited until the spring to put something together and it’s been a little bit of a let-down. I don’t want that to happen this year. You can’t plan prom in two weeks. You just can’t.

Throughout the year, I’ve been filling with the Prom plans as they come together:

Menu suggestions for catering, Playlist for the DJ, Sample ballots for Prom Court, Seating arrangement templates, Decoration ideas, Budgets, Prom Poster art.

I really should have splurged on that extra-half-inch binder.
