Brookside High Prom Bulletin

Dear Prom,

I might not be able to attend you this year, or probably the year after or the year after that, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still TOTALLY PSYCHED FOR YOU!!

Sorry. Ahem.

It’s just that when I think about you, my stomach does little flips. Like the nervous excited kind, not like the gymnastics kind. And watching the anticipation build in the hallways has just been getting me more and more excited!

Then I remember that I’m not going, and I’m a little less excited. But only a little!

When my turn rolls around, I don’t want to be unprepared. For instance, this weekend I might have tried on a few Prom dresses . . . just a couple! After all, it’s important to know your colors and what works for you!

Periwinkle blue? NOT my color.

So, Prom – I look forward to meeting you one day.

Dear Prom Dresses,

We see you there.

Displayed in every window of every clothing store in the mall. Just mocking us Freshman and Sophomores and Juniors (at least the ones without Senior boyfriends) . . . fancy, sparkly reminders of what we’re missing out on . . .

We see you, carefully folded and gently placed into shopping bags, carried out the door by girls getting ready for their big night . . . and all we can do is watch.

And wait.

Actually, the waiting isn’t as hard, because you’re expensive.

Wow. It’s April already. Prom will be here in less than four weeks!

This is the big push. So much to do to make this night unforgettable for everyone . . . I haven’t even had time to think about how to make my night come together.

Not that I’m stressing about it . . .

I just need a dress.

And a date.

And dinner reservations.

And to figure out how we’re getting there.

And who I’m getting ready with.

And also shoes.

I guess I should figure out what I want to do with my hair.

And make-up.

But the Prom table decorations are going to be beautiful.

So, I can cross that off the list.

Prom is just over a month away and there’s still so much to do! It’s funny . . . the more time I spend putting Prom together, the less I feel like it’s my Prom.

I have a massive checklist to go through every day, but I still haven’t had a chance to even try on a dress. Is that terrible?

I love putting this night together for our class, but I can’t wait to just go to the dance and enjoy it like everyone else.

Everyone else seems to have a date, though. Yikes.
